KodeSnap Privacy Policy

App: KodeSnap
Package name: com.kodesnap.scanner
Last updated: July 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how chanwingchow ("we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the KodeSnap mobile application ("KodeSnap" or "the App"). KodeSnap is a barcode/QR scanner, text recognition (OCR), and document scanning app.

Summary: KodeSnap is designed to work primarily on your device. We do not operate a user account system, and we do not upload your scan results to our own servers.

1. Information We Process

Depending on how you use the App, the following information may be processed and stored on your device:

Scan results may contain sensitive information depending on what you scan—for example, URLs, contact details, Wi‑Fi credentials, calendar events, or other data encoded in a barcode or document. This information is created by your use of the App and is stored locally unless you delete it or uninstall the App.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information described above only to:

We do not use your scan content for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

3. Where Data Is Stored

Your scan history is stored locally in an on-device database. Document scans are saved as PDF files in the App's private app storage. We do not transmit your scan content to our own servers.

Important — device backup: If you have Android device backup enabled (for example, through your Google account), your App data—including scan history and documents—may be uploaded to Google's cloud servers as part of your device backup. This constitutes a transfer of your data to Google, whose data practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. If you do not want App data included in backup, please review your device backup settings.

You can delete individual history entries inside the App. Deleting a document entry also removes its local PDF file.

If you uninstall the App, locally stored App data is generally removed from your device, subject to your device and operating system behavior.

4. Permissions

5. Third-Party Services

KodeSnap uses Google on-device and Play services technologies to provide recognition features, including:

Processing for these features generally occurs on your device or through Google-provided components on your device. Google's handling of data may be governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Google Firebase Analytics

KodeSnap uses Google Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google LLC (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA), to collect anonymous usage statistics and help us improve the App. Firebase Analytics may collect the following data categories:

This data is used solely for aggregated analytics to understand how the App is used and to guide improvements. We do not use Firebase Analytics data for advertising or user profiling.

Your choices: You can limit ad tracking at the device level through Settings > Privacy > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization on your Android device, which may affect how Firebase Analytics associates data with your device.

Google acts as a data processor on our behalf for Firebase Analytics. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

International Data Transfers

Firebase Analytics data is processed on servers located in the United States. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, Google complies with the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (DPF), the Swiss–US DPF, and the UK Extension to the EU–US DPF as set forth by the US Department of Commerce. For additional details, see Google's Data Privacy Framework notice.

When you choose actions such as "Share", "Open in browser", "Open in maps", "Call", or "Compose email", the content you share is handled by the app or service you select. We do not control those third-party services.

6. Sensitive Personal Information

When you scan certain types of barcodes, QR codes, or documents, the scanned content may contain sensitive personal information under applicable data protection laws, including but not limited to:

Necessity: Processing this information is necessary to provide the core scanning, decoding, and recognition features you request when you actively scan or capture a code or document.

Impact on your rights: Because scan content is stored locally on your device and not transmitted to our servers, the risk to your personal rights from our processing is limited. However, you should be aware that if you share scan results with third parties, or if device backup is enabled, the information may leave your device.

Separate consent: Processing of sensitive personal information occurs only when you actively scan or capture content. By initiating a scan, you are providing your consent for the App to decode and display the scanned content. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting the relevant scan history entries or uninstalling the App.

7. Device Backup

Android may back up App data if you have device backup enabled (for example, through your Google account). Backup behavior is controlled by your device and operating system settings. If you do not want App data included in backup, please review your device backup settings.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information only in these situations:

9. Data Retention

We retain scan history and documents on your device until you delete them in the App, clear App data, or uninstall the App.

10. Security and Data Breach

We implement a range of technical and organizational measures to safeguard your data:

While we strive to protect your data, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We encourage you to take precautions such as keeping your device's operating system and apps up to date.

Data breach notification: In the event of a data breach involving your personal information, we will notify affected users without undue delay through the App, by email (if you have contacted us), or by posting a notice on this page. We will also notify relevant supervisory authorities within the timeframes required by applicable law (e.g., within 72 hours under GDPR, or per PIPL requirements for authorities in China).

11. Children's Privacy

KodeSnap is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will assist as appropriate.

12. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

For users in China (中华人民共和国): Under the Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal information, and to withdraw your consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. A list of EEA data protection authorities is available at the European Data Protection Board's website.

For users in California, USA: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information.

13. International Users

KodeSnap is operated by chanwingchow from the People's Republic of China. If you use the App from outside that location, your information remains primarily on your device, except where device backup, Google services (including Firebase Analytics), or your own sharing actions apply. When data is transferred internationally through these mechanisms, we ensure that the recipients comply with applicable data protection laws, including through the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (as described in Section 5) or equivalent safeguards.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice within the App or on our distribution page. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
